At Design & Wijn, everything revolves around creating a unique wine experience. We let you enjoy the finest Dutch quality wines, whether you participate in one of our tastings or open our carefully selected wines at home. But it doesn’t stop there. We design and sell stylish wine products – from elegant glassware to special wine racks – that complete the experience.

In the heart of Amsterdam we have a wine shop and tasting room where you can go for Dutch quality wines. Whether you are looking for wine for a dinner, to celebrate something or as a gift, we are happy to help you find your (new) favorite Dutch wine. Bio
Diederik Walhof – Co-founder & Vinologist
Diederik Walhof is a passionate sommelier and viticulturist. He has a great love for wine and is always looking for new discoveries and taste experiences. Together with designer Rose Groot, he founded Design & Wine in 2020, where he is responsible for the wine selection and -tastings. Diederik has been fascinated by the hospitality sector from an early age. The inspiration mainly came from his grandparents, who owned a hotel. The love for wine went hand in hand with this, Diederik already obtained several SDEN certificates during his education at the Hoge Hotelschool.
The wine selection of Design & Wijn is completely local, because Diederik believes that there are beautiful wines to discover in the Netherlands that are often overlooked. Diederik is always looking for special wines that match the personal taste of his customers. He also helps restaurants put together their wine list and makes sure the wines match the menu perfectly.
After graduating from the High Hotel School in Amsterdam (2015) he gained experience as a floor manager at Bluespoon restaurant (Andaz, Hyatt) and as an assistant manager at REM Island. In 2019 he founded Walhofs Wijnen and, as a self-employed sommelier, has given tours & tastings at Chateau Amsterdam, organized custom wine tastings and worked as a sommelier at various restaurants. In 2018 he also had a pop-up and webshop with only Dutch wines. In 2023, Diederik became a registered viticulturist (SDEN4) at the Wine Academy.
Rose Groot – Co-founder & Designer
Rose Groot (33) is a versatile designer with a background in interior, product and graphic design. Her strength lies in creating a coherent total concept in which experience is central. Whether it concerns a space, a product or a brand identity: Rose ensures that all components are visually and substantively connected.
After graduating as a product designer from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam in 2016, she worked for five years as a freelance graphic designer on various assignments, in which brand story and visual coherence were always leading. In 2020, Rose was selected for the talent development program Driving Dutch DesignDuring this period she decided to specialize in wine and wine related design and founded Walhof Design & Wijn together with sommelier Diederik.
Rose is responsible for both the interior design of the store and tasting room as well as the design of wine products including the Super Tucker, Oranje Blanje and the own test forms.
