Limburg Merlot from biodynamically grown grapes in the Palatinate. This steel-aged Merlot from Domaine Zavel is round and supple, beautifully focused on the fruit, with ripe blackberries, cherries, and mulberries. Juicy, pleasantly fresh with balanced acidity and supple tannins. A fine wine for the table or slightly chilled at a picnic. This Merlot comes from a terroir with chalk marl and 20-year-old vines. Partially macerated and aged in steel for 11 months.
About the winemaker
Domaine Zavel, located in Tegelen, is run by winemakers Joni and Arno. They make wines with a focus on natural processes and organically/biodynamically grown grapes, often from friendly farmers. Their approach, also called “Low Intervention”, means that they make minimal interventions in the winemaking process and put the grape and the terroir central.
