Use of decanters
Wine decanting is the process of transferring wine from the bottle to a decanter. This is for several reasons, including:
- Removing Sediment: Some wines, especially older wines, may contain sediment that settles at the bottom of the bottle. Decanting the wine allows you to remove this sediment and prevent it from ending up in the glass.
- Improving the aromas and flavors: By decanting the wine, the wine is brought into contact with oxygen. This can enhance and refine the flavors and aromas of the wine.
- More experience: Decanting gives a ceremonial feeling to serving wine and can be a nice addition to the table decoration.
These Riedel decanters are ideal for extracting more flavor and aroma from young or closed wines. Because of the contact with oxygen in the decanter, the wine will oxidize slightly, which in fact mimics the effect of bottle aging and the taste experience will become more intense.
Artisan blown
This decanter is made with lead-free crystal glass in the glassworks of Riedel in Kufstein, Austria. Each piece is blown from a crystal glass rod and then shaped by hand. A craft in which timing and precision are very important. During the blowing of a decanter, work is done in teams, one indicates the rod from the oven, another blows the glass into length and shape, yet another bends the glass into the intended shape and then another team member will ensure that the opening becomes as wide or narrow as intended. After the hot process, the openings are cut to size and polished. After cleaning and blow-drying, the decanters are packaged and shipped.
Due to this intensive process, the decanters are often sold out and delivery times can be considerable. Is the decanter sold out? Send a e-mail and we will notify you when we have it available again.
Decanters that hold fine
Maximillian Riedel is the 11th generation in the Riedel family. His vision is that decanters should be easy to hold and that decanting and serving wine is a feast for the eyes. In his view, famous decanters such as the Amadeo, Eve & Swan / Wine Wings developed.
Riedel – Amadeo Decanter Cleaning
Clean the decanter immediately after use, by rinsing it with tap water. The last droplets remaining in the decanter air dry. For a completely streak-free drying, you can brush the outside with a microfiber cloth and dry the inside with a hair dryer. Preferably use decalcified water to prevent limescale deposits. If the decanter does get some limescale deposits after a while, you can pour some vinegar into it and leave it overnight. Then rinse the decanter well before use.
