About the wine
The Mussenberg Wit from Wijngaard Keulenhof is an elegant and versatile wine. The fruity aromas of citrus and pit fruit immediately draw your attention. Describe it as a soft wine with refined acidity that doesn't overpower, but rather keeps the wine exciting. A slightly salty note also emerges from the minerality in the soil. The Mussenberg Wit from Wijngaard Keulenhof is made from the Sauvignac grape, a cross between Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. The wine has a medium body and is beautifully full and clear in color.
The wine was awarded silver at the Wine Competition of the Low Countries. The name Mussenberg refers to the now-defunct Mussenberg Castle, whose stones were used in 1803 to build the barns at Keulenhof.
About the winemaker
In the Betuwe Rivierenland region, winemaker Arjan Stam runs his Keulenhof vineyard. This relatively young and small vineyard produces exceptionally fine wines. The secret? Besides sharing collective knowledge with other winemakers in the area, Keulenhof boasts a very unique soil composition. Beneath the river clay lies a layer of loess. The river clay is rich and imparts fruitiness to the wines, while the loess layer below that adds minerality, recognizable by a slightly salty note. The fruit from the Keulenhof vineyard produces exceptionally fine and refined wines from the grape varieties: Cabernet Cortis, Souvignier Gris, Muscaris, and Sauvignac.
- The heart refers to the first plot, which literally has the shape of a heart, and to the love and dedication with which people work here.
- The corkscrew, taken from the farm's historic wall coat of arms (1792), represents craftsmanship, tradition and the traditional way of making wine.
- The butterfly symbolizes nature, biodiversity and the sustainable way in which Keulenhof treats its environment.
