Sueterie Edelzoet – Dutch dessert wine with character and finesse
With the Sueterie Edelzoet, Wijngaard Hof van Twente presents a dessert wine of exceptional quality. This refined, refreshingly sweet wine is made from late-harvest Solaris grapes, which have been left to dry naturally on the vine. Some of the grapes are affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), resulting in an impressive concentration of sugars, aromas, and layers of flavor. The result is a characterful wine that is rich, smooth, and elegant – and not without reason, it was awarded a gold medal.
A wine that speaks of terroir, craftsmanship and balance
The Sueterie Edelzoet is an expressive wine that reveals a seductive palette in both aroma and flavor. Tropical fruit takes center stage: juicy pineapple, ripe mango, and papaya are delicately complemented by fresh notes of mandarin and candied orange peel. In the background, floral accents of acacia blossom and orange blossom give the wine an elegant and ethereal nuance. The influence of noble rot is subtle yet unmistakable in the warm, sweet notes of honey, beeswax, raisins, and apricot jam.
What makes this wine so special is the perfect balance between intense sweetness and invigorating freshness. A lively acidity balances the wine and ensures the sweetness never feels heavy. At the same time, a light minerality—sourced from the Twente soil—adds depth and tension. The texture is silky and rounded, with a long, elegant finish in which fruit, honey, and a hint of spice linger beautifully.
About the winemaker
Hof van Twente Vineyard was founded in January 2000 by Roelof and Ilse Visscher in Bentelo, Twente. What began as a bold step in a still-nascent Dutch wine sector has grown into one of the country's leading vineyards.
Roelof is the winemaker and craftsman behind the wines; Ilse focuses on hospitality and organization. Together, they run the company with passion and dedication. On their own vineyard, they grow modern grape varieties such as Regent, Johanniter, Solaris, and Souvignier Gris, which thrive in the Dutch climate.
The winery is known for its sustainable approach, careful vinification, and wines with character. From crisp white wines to oak-aged rosés and sparkling wines, everything is handcrafted with care—from grape to bottle.
