About the wine
The Elegance of Wine Estate En Passant is refined, salty, and surprisingly elegant. This white wine, as its name suggests, displays elegance and balance. Made from the Souvignier Gris grape, it is then aged for nine months in oak. This is reflected in the soft vanilla notes and the rounded texture, without the oak being the dominant feature. The wine has a beautiful, clear, and light yellow color. The aroma is tender in intensity, yet rich in detail. Notes of ripe pit fruit and stone fruit emerge immediately, with a fresh touch of star fruit and pear. Underneath lies a subtle hint of vanilla, a light minerality, and a characteristic salty note reminiscent of salmiak. This combination makes both the aroma and the taste inviting and distinctive. While the wine lacks pronounced tannins or sweetness, it offers a nice acidity balance, complemented by a slight bitterness that provides structure and length. The alcohol (13%) is modestly present, but not dominant.
About the winemaker
The winemaker, André Vink, has a very small vineyard of just 0.5 hectares next to his campsite. André is a true example of a winemaker who dedicates a great deal of time and attention to his grapes on a small scale. André works with a manual selection and professional advice from winemaker Stan Beurskens, who knows how to make excellent wines. André is influenced by classic French wines (taut, dry, elegant), but with the Zeeland terroir, salty wind, and mineral notes in his wines. André is also a pioneer with his Raw SeaTogether with Stan Beurskens, he was the first Dutch winemaker to mature his sparkling wine in the sea.
Goes well with
This wine pairs beautifully with fish dishes that have structure and briny notes, such as monkfish. It also pairs wonderfully with shellfish or creamy dishes with a fresh touch.
