About the Portique
After years of patience, craftsmanship, and quiet maturation, the moment has arrived: our very first fortified wine is ready to make its debut! With only 438 bottles bottled exclusively for Design & Wine, this edition is also very limited in availability.
Tasting note
The Portique is made from the Pinotín grape and aged for five years in oak barrels. The wine is powerful yet remarkably silky in its expression. The flavor and aroma unfold refined notes of anise, ripe red fruit, rose petals, and amarena cherry, followed by a subtle hint of vanilla that elegantly rounds it off. It's a wine to sip leisurely, savor consciously, and reflect upon.
Wines made from the Pinotín grape are typically deep red in color and characterized by fruity aromas such as cherry and dark forest fruit. They are often smooth and approachable, with a crisp acidity that complements wines from cooler climates. That's why a growing number of vineyards in the Netherlands and surrounding countries are experimenting with this grape. Pinotín can mature well in cooler regions, where classic red grape varieties sometimes struggle to fully ripen.
The design
For the design, we started with the idea behind the wine. The generous flavor palette served as the starting point and led us to the concept of an embroidered ribbon. With this, we wanted to visually reflect the craftsmanship and attention with which this wine is crafted, giving it a truly special look. The label is authentic, distinctive, stylish, and chic. The design reflects the character of the wine itself: a boutique port wine with a refined, elegant appearance.
The label was designed as a tribute to the legacy of Wijngoed Gelders Laren. Design & Wine Designer
Rose developed the label together with Rozanne Naude, while production was set up by neighbor and 140-year-old clothing store De Mof. The embroidery was crafted by a Portuguese atelier, a subtle reference to the port-style inspiration of the wine.
About Wijngoed Gelders Laren
The wine comes from Wijngoed Gelders Laren. Winemakers Diana van der Biezen and Gert Jan Voortman have been making Dutch wine for 19 years. Their vineyard is characterized by their complete focus on achieving the optimal quality of the grapes. They achieve this by growing the plants in optimal conditions, applying bunch thinning, selective picking during harvest, and personally inspecting each bunch. In addition to their own Coulisse wines, Wijngoed Gelders Laren produces quality wines with passionate sommeliers.
We at Design & Wijn have, in addition to the Blanc de Noir '‘Larens Blanje Bleu'’ also an orange wine'‘Oranje Blanje‘' released with Wijngoed Gelders Laren. Previously, we produced the orange wine '‘Orange Above‘' released with Wijngoed Gelders Laren. Other collaborations include those with Thérèse Boer. This wine, 'Thérèse's Kiss,' was made exclusively for the restaurant The Librije***. Learn more about it via the link Winery Gelders Laren.
