Tinder Swindler victim Ayleen starts her own wine label

November 16, Ayleen Charlotte launches her first wine under her own wine label Ay Wines. A wine label with a focus on unfiltered wines from biologically working winemakers in Europe.

From victim to entrepreneur

In 2017, Ayleen Charlotte met scammer Simon Hayut, better known as the 'Tinder Swindler' from the popular documentary of the same name on Netflix (2022). Although Ayleen is seen as the heroine of the documentary, she is also a victim. To break away from the victim role, Ayleen has decided to set up her own wine label. With this, Ayleen wants to show other fraud victims that there is a life after a scam and that you can take back control of your life little by little.

Unfiltered natural wines

The wines under the label come from naturally working winemakers in Europe. These are winemakers who do not use pesticides in the vineyard and do not or hardly add sulphite to the wine. Ayleen selects the wines for her label that best suit her label. Energetic, powerful and pure. Ayleen: 'I strive to give everyone a great experience by drinking my wines, I do this by only entering into partnerships with winemakers who make exceptional wines.'

The kick-off with Dutch orange wine

The first wine under the label was made by Marcel Oude Booijink and comes from vineyard VieVinVjenne from Vriezenveen in Twente. 'When I tasted this orange wine I immediately knew that this should be my first wine. I had never tasted anything so special before' Ayleen says. This rare wine comes from 2017 and is made from 100% Solaris grapes. The five-year maturation has ensured that this wine has become very refined. In the wine you can smell citrus aromas such as orange and mandarin. In the taste it has light bitters and very soft tannins. This wine is bottled exclusively for Ayleen and only 650 bottles are available.

Collaboration with designer and sommelier

Ayleen worked intensively with sommelier Diederik Walhof and designer Rose Groot of Design & Wijn to set up her wine label. Diederik says: 'Both the wines and the design had to fit Ayleen as a person. Soon we came across unfiltered wines, these wines have more aromas, are purer and more exciting than filtered wines. After many blind tastings, this style remained Ayleen's absolute favourite.' Rose adds ”Like Ayleen, the design had to be energetic and powerful, the epitome of an inspiring woman. Curves and organic shapes are reflected in the logo and wine label, while a copper foil embossing reflects the light in the label. This makes it mobile and energetic.

The first wine was made in a select edition of 650 pieces and is for sale for €39.50.

The wine will be available from November 16, 2022 – Order it directly in our Online store.
