Dutch Rood – Neerlands Wijnmakerij is a powerful yet approachable Dutch red wine with character. This wine convincingly combines depth and softness, demonstrating that Dutch red wine can age exceptionally well and offer structure.

Character and aromas

In the glass, Dutch Rood presents itself as a deep ruby red. The aroma is warm and inviting, with distinct notes of cassis and autumnal scents reminiscent of forest floor and ripe dark fruit. The palate is full of blackberries and other dark fruits, supported by beautifully integrated tannins. The oak aging has resulted in mature tannins, a firm structure, and a subtle vanilla note, giving the wine its "broad shoulders" and robust character. With 13% alcohol, the wine is powerful yet beautifully balanced.

About the winemaker

Roelof and Ilse Visscher started the Hof van Twente vineyard in Bentelo, Twente, in the early 2000s. The vineyard grew into one of the largest in the Netherlands and has also been home to Dutch Winery. Grapes from more than 30 Dutch vineyards are processed here annually, representing a significant portion of total Dutch wine production.

The winery creates bespoke wines, fully tailored to the winemaker's wishes and the character of the terroir. Their son, Mart Visscher, trained as a winemaker in Germany, is now actively involved in the winemaking process. Together, they are known for their modern approach, craftsmanship, and award-winning Dutch wines, including the cuvée "A Taste of Dutch," a collaboration of grapes from several Dutch vineyards.
