Character and aromas

This unique Dutch dessert wine is made from late-harvest Pinot Gris grapes treated with noble rot, resulting in a wonderful complexity and natural sweetness from a generous 89 grams of residual sugar. In the glass, enticing aromas of honey, peach, banana, and pineapple emerge. The wine has a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity, making it rich yet elegant.

About the winemaker

Winery Thorn is located in the heart of the Limburg town of Thorn, also known as "t Witte Stadje" (The White Town). In 2001, Harry and Mieke began growing grapes and making wine. What began as a small-scale initiative has since grown into a renowned winery with 9 hectares of vineyards and a wide, high-quality selection of wines.

The vineyards are situated on an old Meuse arm and consist of clay and sandy soils. This soil structure ensures good water management and heat retention, contributing to ripe grapes with refined aromas. With an average of 1,600 hours of sunshine per year and a location in one of the driest regions of the Benelux, this warm part of Limburg offers excellent conditions for viticulture.

The mild microclimate of the Meuse Valley produces wines with balance, freshness, and an expression of origin. Since January 10, 2018, the wine-growing region has been officially recognized by the European Commission with the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Maasvallei Limburg, confirming the unique quality and identity of this region.
